Born on a cotton plantation in South Carolina, Eartha Kitt was given away by her mother and sent to live with an aunt in Harlem at the age of eight. It was in New York that her distinct individuality and flair for show business manifested itself, when at the urging of a friend she auditioned for the famed Katherine Dunham Dance Troupe. She was awarded a position as a featured dancer and vocalist, and before she turned twenty, she had toured with them worldwide. While performing with the Dunham Troupe in Paris, Ms. Kitt was spotted by a nightclub owner who signed her on as a cabaret singer. She gained fame and admirers quickly.Upon her return to the United States, Ms. Kitt played a twenty-week run at the Blue Angel - a still unbroken record for cabaret artists &emdash; before moving on the Village Vanguard. Broadway stardom led to a recording contract and a succession of best-selling records including "Love For Sale" and "Folk Tales of the Tribes of Africa," for which she received a Gra Less

Aerosmith at Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis, MO on September 18, 1975 during their Toys In The Attic Tour. There's a bit missing from the beginning, but this soundboard recording is nice and clear. Steven does some interesting changes to lyrics (on purpose!) and is kind of "talky" and amusing, plus Train Kept A-Rollin' has a long drum solo. I think this is a good concert despite the missing beginning. I found two photos of Steven and Joe from this concert through a St. Louis radio station that mentions this Toys tour. (Not displayed here.) Kiel Auditorium was a 9300 capacity arena with an adjacent opera house; it was demolished in 1992 like so many older venues. The Toys In The Attic album was released April 8, 1975 on the Columbia label. They began touring on March 25, 1975 until the very end of the year with some time off in October. Toys was very successful and produced by Jack Douglas. These songs are from their first three albums: self-titled Aerosmith (1973), Get Your Wings (1974) and TITA (1975). As an aside: Steven mentions Patty Hearst who was arrested on this very day. It was a big deal because she was on the FBI's Most Wanted list. A very wealthy heiress to newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst, she was kidnapped in 1974 and the ordeal became a constant news item, which I remember well while I was in 3rd and 4th grade; her trial dragged on for years. A good history of it here: tinyurl.com Steven Tyler - vocals, harmonica, maracas Joe Perry - guitar, some vocals ... Less
