Join the badgers as we discus the recent attacks on Metal, Warhammer, crybaby Black Metal fans and Trollz. We seek out HERESY in the name of the Holy Emperor!nnCringezerker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujTufg1GvR4nnSo… #MetalGate Is Still a Thing… NerdRevolt - January 19th, 2016nnSummary/AnalysisnnSummary:nnKristy Love of the Houston Press is still trying to make #MetalGate happen; let’s all be righteous Regina George’s and remind her that it’s not going to happen. Yes, I just made a comparison between thrash metal and Mean Girls. Kristy wrote an article last November called “Metal Still Has Big Problems With Women”. She believes that women’s role in metal is strictly relegated to, quote, “hooters-like, bikini-model, stripper-girl atmosphere in general”. She makes a point to complain that women have to “prove their fandom to suspicious men who require authentication.”nnAlong with the evocation of popular, modern-social-justice constructs like “Male Gaze”, the belief that those who write about murder and rape are promoting it, and a complete glossing over of another genre of music that has purported “problems with misogyny” (coughhiphopcough), you have a classic, industrially-produced, thought piece from the professionally offended.nnSomeone’s Mean to a Woman? PROFIT, PROFIT, PROFIT! NerdRevolt – January 16th, 2016nnSummary/AnalysisnnSummary:nnI think Kim Kelly, writer for voice, sums up the metal community with the first sentence of her article titled, “Of Course Crybaby Black Metal Fans Are Sending Death Threats To Myrkur.” Quote: “It’s not exactly a secret that some… extreme metal fans have unresolved issues with women, and that a hefty percentage of those types exert an astonishing amount of energy on advertising that fact online…”nnA female artist in the metal scene, named Myrkur, updated her Facebook page saying that she is no longer accepting messages from anybody due to the large amount of death threats she has been receiving. While Honey Badger Radio trusts that there are elements of truth to this, and find any death threats deplorable, we have to remember that articles devoted to heightening female victimhood tend to equate criticism with harassment. One look at the comments seems to highlight that the criticism she receives has nothing to do with her being female metal enthusiast infiltrating the boys club… but rather that she seems to be getting over-exposure BECAUSE she’s a woman. Also, as somebody who doesn’t listen to black metal, the comments have introduced me to other, well-respected female musicians in the black metal community like Dana Duffy, Melissa Jaded Lungs, or Anastasia from Sortilegia. So what is the real story behind this, badgers? Discuss.nnn Women Aren’t Physically Weaker Than Men Because ‘Biology’; You Are a BigotnnNerdRevolt – January 19th, 2016nnSummary/AnalysisnnSummary:nnIn the grim darkness of the far future, there is only tumblr. Can you imagine? Nah, that’s too terrifying to consider. Let’s just settle for Warhammer 40k, which… like all games that cater to the men… are problematic. The Mary Sue has put out an article called “In the Grim Darkness of Warhammer 40k’s Far Future, There Are Only Men, and It’s Terrible”. Author James McConnaughy thinks that the reasons for why the Space Marine faction is exclusively male is just, quote “too stupid to go into”, when in fact, it’s really simple and logical. Remember guys: it’s 2016. Even though there is a faction known as the Adepta Sororitas, which is exclusively female, this isn’t good enough. The mythology of Warhammer 40k is too inconvenient for the current year.nnLink to the show notes and analyses: http://honeybadgerbrigade.com/radio/nerdrevolt-47-metalhammer-gate-of-metal/nnHost: Brian MartineznParticipants: Max Derrat, Hannah Wallen, Radio Voice GuynSpecial Guest:@GRIMACHUnDate: January 19th, 2016nTime: 8 PM EasternnCringezeker: TBAnnFeed the badger: http://www.patreon.com/honeybadgerradio Less
