Project: Backyard Pishing; Private Residence, Talking Rock, Pickens County, North Georgia, USA Date: 2013.02.13; Approx 44 degrees, gray skies, spitting rain mid-day Camera: Kodak Z740 Zoom Turned out I had two of these videos almost back to back where five species of birds were interacting on a platform feeder. This second one is a slightly different interspecies mix of birds. Captured here are Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus, PISI), American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis, AMGO), Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor, TUTI), Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina, CHSP) AND... what I THINK is Purple Finch (Carpodacus purpureus, PUFI) because of the female that actually appears in a different video I caught today.. All taking turns at the platform feeder today. Neat. Labeled this one as "funny" because the last half of it is all about the Pine Siskin. He starts off gradually trying to run off the Chipping Sparrow. Ends up taking quite a few potshots at several of the species and gets more determined, aggressive with each one over HIS feeder before it's over.. The Pine Siskin's repeated aggression there that grows in the amount of geographical area he's trying to claim is interesting to me because I've never seen Siskins claim this much territory, this much personal space here before. Noticed the last two weeks it's happening more frequently. There's a piece of me hoping that a small flock of Pine Siskins may be thinking of calling the area home this Spring. IF that is what is happening ... Less
