CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - One of the teenagers charged in an assault that left a boy with a broken jaw admitted his role in the attack to police and told them he had been "mad at the world," according to court documents. Keenan Baker, 16, of Cedar Rapids, made a brief initial appearance Friday morning in Linn County District Court. He has been charged as an adult with one count of assault causing serious injury, a class D felony, in connection with the Aug. 21 incident that left three boys injured. Linn County Attorney Jerry Vander Sanden said Thursday his office will ask that two other assault charges against Baker be waived to adult court to join the felony count. A second boy accused in the attack, 15-year-old Tyress Martin, of Cedar Rapids, is charged in juvenile court with one count of assault causing serious injury and two counts of assault causing bodily injury. Prosecutors have filed a motion to have Martin tried as an adult, but a judge has not yet ruled. According to witnesses and police, four boys were walking home from Washington High School on Aug. 21, when they were attacked by two other boys in front of 368 20th St. SE. According to one boy's mother, one of the assailants yelled "Get off my block," before her son was punched from behind. One of the victims, 15-year-old Christian Meek, spent two nights in a hospital for a broken jaw and a severed nerve, his mother said. Another 15-year-old boy had his two front teeth knocked out, but doctors were able to replace ... Less

(my response) Three people were injured at an outdoor sports complex in Oregon when a monster truck struck a barrier and plowed into the crowd during a Labor Day Weekend show. The injured, whose names and conditions had not been released today, were taken to the hospital in Eugene, Ore., for treatment. Deputies with the Linn County Sheriff's Office said the victims' injuries were not life threatening. Dan Mills, owner of the Harrisburg MotorSports Complex in Harrisburg, where the accident occurred, said he believes the truck's hydraulic steering went out during a race, causing the driver to lose control of his vehicle. "It went to the right and there wasn't anything he could do to stop it," Mills told The Associated Press. "This was my worst fear - what happened. ... It was the freakiest thing I've ever seen." More than 1000 spectators were on hand to see "Monster Air 2012? on Saturday. Despite the accident, Mills said a show scheduled for today would go on as planned, however as an added precaution, spectators would not be allowed in the area where the accident occurred. This is my response to video of a Monster Truck that went out of control and drove into a crowd of people at an event in Oregon 9-2-2012 Note: This is a response video. NORTHWEST, Mo.) It's an understatement to say it's a heartbreaking experience when a loved one goes missing. Several families in northwest Missouri are actually dealing with that sort of crisis right now. They haven't stopped searching, and now they're asking for your help. Loved ones haven't paused for a moment since 82-year-old Jean Boxely went missing several days ago. "She hasn't taken off, and it's just a very odd thing that we haven't seen the car anywhere so it makes it even more scary," says Kim Grienke, a granddaughter. Boxely was last seen heading toward Laclede after buying $10 in gas and a lottery ticket, but she never made it home. Law enforcement is optimistic about the search. "With this being deer season, there's a lot of hunters out and about. Facebook has been a great contact, a great resource. Traveling for the holidays, that's a positive. The more people that are looking, the better the chances," says Tom Parks, Linn County Sheriff. Unfortunately, Boxely isn't the only missing person in northwest Missouri. Branson Perry's case has still not been solved. Also, family of Carol Jo Thompson is are still looking for her. "I miss my family. I miss Carol. She's out there somewhere, and she will be found," says Jessica Thomas, Carol Jo's niece. Carol Jo went missing without a trace more than 5 months ago. Law enforcement doesn't have any leads at this time, but loved ones aren't quitting. "I'm determined to find her. I mean, there's some kind of strength ... Less

And his family wants justice Story can be found on www.cbs2iowa.com www.cbs2iowa.com www.cbs2iowa.com CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- After seven months with no answers, family and friends of Paul Saldivar now have one. Linn County Attorney Jerry Vander Sanden said Saldivar's death was accidental and will not press charges against Cedar Rapids police officers involved that night. Police arrested Saldivar back in May for public intoxication outside Hazzard County Saloon in Cedar Rapids. Police have said all along Saldivar hit his head on an armrest in the squad car. Vander Sanden's report adds that what ultimately killed Saldivar was "positional asphyxia"; that's when a person's posture doesn't allow for proper breathing. The Iowa State Medical Examiner found Saldivar was very drunk, with a .299 blood alcohol content level, nearly four times the legal limit. The report states the excessive alcohol slowed down his breathing, which was already a problem because of his posture. "I do not believe this was an accident. I do not," Paul's sister Paulette Gandara said. Paul's family still doesn't believe the story. They said it doesn't line up with what doctors told them about Paul's injuries the week before he was taken off life support. "You do not get picked up for public intox and end up dead in the back seat of a police car," Paulette said. Even more frustrating for them after all this time -- Paul's brothers' and sisters' cry for justice has not been answered. "It's ... Less

Scott County Attorney Mike Walton has cleared three Davenport police officers of any wrongdoing in the Aug. 7 shooting of an 18-year-old man on the Centennial Bridge. Walton said Thursday that the three officers — Sgt. Greg Behning, Detective Epigminio Canas and Officer Sam Miller — shot Michael Linn Cross as he tried to run them over with his vehicle in an attempt to break free from a blockade of police vehicles. "When you don't stop after officers try to stop you, bad things are going to happen," Walton said. "Mr. Cross raised the level of danger for everyone involved. He endangered the lives of officers, he endangered the lives of civilians, and he endangered his own life." Walton showed video from a squad car's dashboard camera. The video showed Cross crashing his Chevy Blazer into an unmarked police van at the base of the bridge in Davenport shortly after midnight. He then put his vehicle in reverse and struck another unmarked vehicle that attempted to box him in. A marked squad car with lights flashing also attempted to block him. The three officers fired their weapons at Cross's vehicle as he rapidly accelerated forward. Walton said the officers fired six rounds, and Cross sustained three gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening. The incident on the bridge lasted 1.03 seconds, Davenport Police Maj. Don Schaeffer said. Schaeffer said the officers fired their weapons because they felt they were in danger, adding that Cross turned his steering wheel "toward those ... Less
