Intimate Nature is an attempt to share the experiences that unfold when entering into a deep relationship with an animal. As part of her ongoing artistic research and performative practice into processes of becoming, Christine Borch explores her union with the Arab horse Anik, revealing their personal, collective as well as trans-personal memories. The relationship between human and horse simultaneously speaks of a new love story and an ancient old partnership.nIntimate Nature honours and values qualities of animal presence that humans can learn from. Placing the horse into the theatre amplifies the cultural acts executed on animals. Yet, paradoxically, the choreography creates a frame in which the re-reading of the animal as one that is free becomes an experienceable utopia for the audience. A possible attempt to un-tame the human. In the final performance the choreography moves from the city back to the countryside but works with the same paradox: The place of the animal is also “man-aged”; yet, the environment invites the audience to re-consider their relation with (one’s own) nature.nThe dance perceived as a transformative process is by its nature a bio-political statement. Intimate Nature is a journey towards ourselves as a species amongst others.nnConcept, Choreography, Costume: Christine BorchnPerformance: Anik, Christine BorchnHorse Communication: Claudia DöbelnHorse Man: Roland A.M.
