The Athletes For Art Renaissance Tour Exhibition was packed wall to wall with football, basketball, and skateboard pros as well as Miami’s hottest art enthusiasts and fashion designers. Noted guests were welcomed upon entrance by celebrity artist John Born, who created a live canvas painting that was later auctioned for charity. nnAttendees of the Athletes Art Renaissance Tour (AART) included hip-hop recording artist and producer Swizz Beatz, Miami Dolphins Defensive Linemen Jared Odrick, star of the hit show “American Chopper” Paul Sr., and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Melky Jean. nnThe event also featured a live auction of art pieces and sports memorabilia created and donated by professional athletes to benefit the Smile Design Gallery Foundation who’s goal is to provide dental care for those who simply cannot afford it. Items included a signed Miami Heat jersey from former player Lebron James, and original art work from St. Louis Rams Tight End, Lance Kendricks, former New York Jet Aaron Maybin, Atlanta Falcons Cornerback Rob McClain & Former NBA Star Desmond Mason, among others. nnThroughout the evening, attendees enjoyed culinary artistry, unique mixology, additional live paintings, musical performances, and an eye-catching interactive media wall. nn “The AART has created a diverse atmosphere for athletes and entertainers, allowing for them to immerse themselves in art like never before,” says Jumoke Mendez, AART founder. nnThe night was surely enjoyed by all, and was closed out by a fashion show introducing the “Simply Jess” collection by designer Jessica Giovanni. AART had a successful evening at Art Basel Miami on their worldwide tour. Their next stop, is New York on February 12th 2015 where iconic32 will acknowledge and present a “Creative Rebel” award to Magic Johnson for his accomplishments to the sport of basketball, as well as communities and the business fields. nnAthletes and Artists animate and empower our communities, the Athletes for Art Renaissance Tour aims to break the myth that one is either an athlete or artist.
