They’re not good, per se, but a compelling villain can be great. Having an effective, interesting bad guy is almost as important to a movie as having a worthy hero. And in some cases, more so. Feel like we left out or mis-represented any of these villains? Who’s the movie villain that gave you nightmares? Heck, for the majority of the movie, he’s not even an embodiment… just an evil evil all-seeing eye.nnLil ZenCity of God (2002)nFirst among villains that scared the sh*t out of us, since he’s an unpredictable monster in what’s not strictly a monster movie. nnMax CadynCape Fear (1962 & 1991)nMax Cady is relentless, literally going to the ends of the earth for revenge. And he’s terrifying in the process.nnThe JokernThe Dark Knight (2008)nThere’s reason Batman and the Joker have been antagonists for the better part of a century: because the Clown Prince of Crime laughing chaos is the perfect foil to Batman’s grim, studied quest for justice.nnThe Reverent Harry Powell nThe Night of The Hunter (1955)nWe’re not sure we’ve ever enjoyed hating a movie character more than this self-righteous, yet utterly despicable reverend. Man, we really want to smack him in the face.nnHannibal LecternThe Silence of The Lambs (1991) and sequelsnDr. Lecter enjoys fine music, is soft spoken, and sympathetic, yet he eats people’s body parts and has to be kept fully restrained. Yet… we still kinda like him. Hannibal’s complexity makes him one of the greatest movie villains of all time.nnHans BeckertnM (1931)nIt’s rare to see an honest dose of humanity mixed in with movie villains, much less in 80-year-old films about child murderers, but when we see Hans Beckert’s clearly trapped in his own psychological prison, it changes the entire tone of the story, and that certainly makes it worth a shot on our list.nnAnton ChigurhnNo Country For Old Man (2007)nPerhaps the only thing more terrifying than realizing the humanity in the villain is coming face-to-face with an utter lack of humanity. And that’s what Javier Bardem manages to portray an Anton Chigurh.nnNorman BatesnPsycho (1960)nNorman Bates is certainly a psycho, but it’s a chillingly human kind of crazy. He’s a nice young man who loves his mother, but in the most twisted way imaginable.nnFrank BoothnBlue Velvet (1986)nLooking at Frank Booth’s twisted perversions is almost, just, maybe like looking into a dark mirror at ourselves. And that’s what makes him the most frightening - and greatest - villain in movie history.nnWant to send us stuff?nnCineFixnc/o Mike CruznPO BOX 351213nLos Angeles, CA 90035nnWatch More Cinefix Videos:nnCAPTAIN MALCOLM REYNOLDS vs CAPTAN STEVE ZISSOU - Captain Warsnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gorFeThyVFQnnCAPTAIN PICARD vs HAN SOLO - Captain Warsnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjukbhKGxI8nnDie Hard to Dark Knight: A History of Kicking Ass, Part 3 - Film School'Dnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOwZoz1HOvQnnBatman V Superman Trailer- Homemade Shot for Shotnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEjxYPwK3WYnn9 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Back to the Future!nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksey16tAqr0nnALL THE DISNEY! - CineFix Now Roundtablenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCyeTzkmepknnCAPTAIN JACK SPARROW vs CAPTAIN STEVE ZISSOU - Captain Warsnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8836c2Ct4AnnCAPTAIN PICARD vs CAPTAIN SHAKESPEARE - Captain Warsnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_B371tmInMnnWhere the Wild Things Are - What’s the Difference?nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXZBN40j6EEnnAmerican Ultra Review - CineFix Nownhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68KK6-zRokgnnPrincess Mononoke - 8 Bit Cinemanhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhkQOj_kkMUnnTop 10 Most Important Film Movements of All Timenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0Qbn_T5p5UnnUncontrollable RAGE About Movies!!! - CineFix Now Roundtablenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jCHPb9CwEQnnCAPTAIN MAL vs CAPTAIN RON - Captain Warsnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sH_1NuJL94nnCAPTAIN AMERICA vs HAN SOLO - Captain Warsnhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNB_adjjGw4nnInception Hallway Dream Fight - Art of the Scenenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=junBvKGZCDcnnMake Your Own Batman Mecha Armor Suit! - Homemade How-to!nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnNzmOR8gU8 Less
