A move towards restaurants being located in gas stations is becoming popular in the Washington D.C. area. The food industry is undergoing a massive transformation in terms of how food is sourced and served.A move towards restaurants being located in gas stations is becoming popular in the Washington D.C. area. A variety of ethnic food restaurants have found homes adjoining gas stations, or in food trucks that are parked in gas station lots. Some of the restaurants are getting attention for serving better meals than what most people would expect to eat when they get food from the gas station. Startup restaurants are saving money by partnering up with locally owned gas stations to have mutual customer traffic. Colonel Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken at a gas station in Corbin, Kentucky and now it is one of the biggest fast food chains in the world. Rodrigo Albarran, owner of R&R Taqueria, an expanding chain of Mexican restaurants, said: “It’s not the location; i Less

TORONTO – A New York State Trooper is being hailed as a hero after dragging an unconscious man from a car after it slammed into a gas pump and burst into flames.John Vescio was pumping gas last week when a 69-year-old man lost control of his car and crashed into the gas station. “I went to look up and to see what was going on and the next thing I knew the pump was coming down on top of me,” Vescio said. In the video, the trooper can be seen running away as the gas pump ignited along with the car. Vescio can be seen returning to the burning car and dragging the unconscious driver to safety. Vescio had been hurt in the chain-reaction crash when the pump fell on top of him. He scrambled away just as the front of the Toyota and the pump caught fire. After briefly escaping from the flames, he returned to drag the trapped driver to safety with help from another bystander. Vescio then told people to move away, knowing that there was ammunition and a weapon in his heavily damaged unmarked car. His ammunition was all accounted for and didn't explode from the flames. Tuesday was Vescio's first day back on the job after being injured in the crash. He said he planned on visiting the driver he saved later in the day. The man, who apparently was suffering from a diabetic episode, remained at Westchester Medical Center in stable condition Sources: http://globalnews.ca/news/1389706/watch-off-duty-cop-pulls-man-from-gas-station-inferno/ http://www.lohud.com/story/news/crime/2014/06/10/hero-cop-talks-fiery-hutchinson-gas-station-crash/10294571/ Less

A gas station in Colfax, Wisconsin took a direct hit from an EF-1 tornado last Friday, and the dramatic event was caught on video by a surveillance camera directly in the path of the twister. The camera shows wind and rain steadily picking up through the video, and a large pickup truck makes a quick u-turn just as debris comes into the picture — a smart move that probably saved them from injury given the size of the debris that took their place shortly thereafter. The wind and debris rapidly pick up as the tornado gets closer, and the small but powerful rotation suddenly comes into view as it quickly hits a row of townhouses before slamming into the gas pumps and a convertible right in front of the camera. The NWS surveyed the damage in Colfax and rated the tornado an EF-1 with estimated winds between 85-90 MPH. The tornado was 100 yards wide at one point. WEAU reports everyone escaped the storm without injuries. Less
