But many supporters were unimpressed that the 2.4 metre replica doesn’t look enough like their footballing hero. Others noticed that the statue of Ronaldo erected in Madeira’s capital Funchal looked particularly figure hugging and sported a generous bulge. Fresh from winning the Club World Cup final in Morocco, the 29-year-old flew back to Madeira on Sunday for the honour. The statue weighs 800 kilos and was created by local sculptor Ricardo Valosa. It takes pride of place at Ronaldo’s personal museum in Funchal. Our correspondent Claudia Garcia said: “From Madeira to the world, the statue of Cristiano Ronaldo was inaugurated by the man himself, and he thinks it’s more attractive than the original.” Ronaldo also told fans that it was an honour that a statue was made in his lifetime. But fans were divided over how alike the statue was to the world’s number one footballer. “We think that the facial expression looks a bit like him but not the face, physically it looks a bit like him,” said the Madeira resident. Andreas Lubitz appears to have deliberately crashed into a mountain after locking the captain out of the cockpit, say prosecutors. In Montabaur, between Frankfurt and Bonne, people reacted at the flight club he belonged to. One member, Peter Ruecker, said: “He was a very nice young man. He was a lot of fun, although sometimes a bit quiet. He was just another boy like so many others here.” And by all accounts, Lubitz was seen as someone right for the job. The head of the Westerwald flight club, Laus Radke, said: “They are professional pilots. They have a certain internal control mechanism. They are examined and have to be healthy. “We have to have certain qualities to fly. A doctor talks to us and we have to be physically fit and mentally fit.” 28-year-old Lubitz lived with his parents in Montabaur, but he also had lodgings in Dusseldorf. They gathered today with victims’ families near the crash site, but were then questioned by police. Some reports say Lubitz had to take a break from his pilot training in 2008 because of a burnout after suffering from depression. The girl, identified only Anneli-Marie R, went missing on Thursday whilst walking her dog. She was the daughter of a wealthly businessman. Her remains were found on a farm near Leipzig on Monday, police said on Tuesday. Erich Wenzlick, Dresden’s chief prosecutor, said that police believe “it was a murder to cover up their identities.“ The two perpetrators did not wear masks during the kidnapping. They could have been identified by the kidnapped girl.“ Anneli-Marie’s parents had told the kidnappers in an open letter that they were willing to pay.
