Outside the International Space Station, cameras captured dramatic views of Hurricane Patricia at 12:15 p.m. EDT on October 23, 2015 as the mammoth system moved north at about10 mph, heading for a potentially catastrophic landfall along the southwest coast of Mexico sometime during the day, according to the National Hurricane Center. Packing winds of 200 miles per hour, Patricia is the strongest in recorded history in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. The National Hurricane Center says that once Patricia crosses the Mexican coast it should weaken quickly and dissipate Oct. 24 due to upper level winds and mountainous terrain, but likely will introduce copious amounts of rainfall to the Texas coast through the weekend. The city's Lower Ninth Ward was one of the worst-hit communities, with scores drowning in the disaster and thousands of homes being gutted by up to 12ft of water. Only 34 per cent of 14,000 previous residents have been able to return home and less than half of businesses have reopened. Many charities are working to rebuild homes, including the St Bernard Project and lowernine.org, which have described the immense challenges faced as they attempt to restore the community. Scores have been victims of construction fraud as fake companies pillaged what savings the majority African-American community possess. Hurricane Barbara hit Mexico's southern Pacific coast on Wednesday (May 29), flooding roads, toppling trees and killing two men as it pounded the area with heavy rain near the country's biggest oil refinery. The U.S. National Hurricane Centre said the hurricane was 130km (80 miles) east of the port of Salina Cruz in Oaxaca state. Winds were blowing at a maximum 120 kph (75 miles per hour). Residents on Mexico's southern Pacific coast return home, surrounded by the aftermath of a devastating storm. At least two men were killed when Hurricane Barbara hit the area on Wednesday (May 30). The coastline was pounded by heavy rain and winds of up to 60 miles per hour, leaving roads flooded and homes destroyed. Troops were deployed in Oaxaca to help the clean up as residents began to assess the damage. Authorities say around 1,000 people from five communities were evacuated to temporary shelters. The hurricane weakened to a tropical storm as it moved inland. It is expected to dump up to 10 inches of rain and cause a tidal surge as it sweeps north. Less

According to Ukraine's Emergencies Ministry some 3,000 trees were damaged by the hurricane, many blocking streets and damaging cars. Some buildings suffered minor damage. Odessa residents were clearing debris off the streets and removing the fallen trees on Saturday (June 1) morning.
