The LA Times is reporting today that the popular 1980's television show, Knight Rider, is currently in development with the Weinstein Company, getting prepped it for it's big screen debut. According to a source close to the production, filmmaker, Brad Copeland is on board to write a draft of the script. Copeland has an eclectic resume as a producer, writer, and director, be he gained a lot of clout as a screenwriter in Hollywood after he penned his 2007 hit Wild Hogs, which like Knight Rider, also had some car action. And remakes are quite familiar to Copeland as he is also involved with the movie versions of Giligans Island and Flight of the Navigator. And he's also contributed to the scripts for the original Arrested Development TV series, and his latest project is an R-rated indie comedy called "Coffee Town," so don't be too surprised if we see a little humor in this remake. And from the way it sounds, it seems like the creative team will be taking notes from other big car action franchises, like Fast & The Furious, for the inspiration for the Knight Rider. Now, if you are old enough to remember the TV show, you will also remember that David Hasselhoff starred as Michael Knight, and he apparently wants to be involved somehow in the film, but we doubt that at 60 years old that he would get back behind the wheel of another flying Trans Am, but in Hollywood I guess anything is possible. So, who thinks a fresh take on Knight Rider could be something you would want to see on the big screen?
