2014 Diagnostics by Design Workshop DaynnHosted by the PoCDx IdeaLab (http://pocdx.org), Tekla Labs (http://www.teklalabs.org), and the Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases (http://cend.globalhealth.berkeley.edu/)nnn"Microfluidics for Personal Mobile Diagnostics"nnSam Sia, Associate Professor, Columbia UniversitynnTalk abstract:nLab-on-a-chip (LOC) devices have a tremendous potential for revolutionizing personal health. In developing countries, mobile diagnostics provides immediate diagnosis in the field, and in the U.S., patients and consumers can have greater access to traditionally complex diagnostics. We will discuss our lab's current efforts in these areas, in conjunction with partners in industry, public health, and local governments. Our tests span a variety of technologies, and target HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, and chronic diseases.nnnAbout the DxD Workshop:nThe Diagnostics by Design workshop is an interdisciplinary forum for discussing the challenges and lessons learned in developing and implementing global health technologies, specifically at the point of care. Through interactive talks, a panel discussion with experts from industry and academia, and a hands-on build session, workshop participants will explore the challenges associated with translating technologies beyond the lab.nnFunding provided by the Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases (http://cend.globalhealth.berkeley.edu/) Less
