It seemed not to matter that Turkish police withdrew from Taksim Square a day after they drove thousands of political protesters from the park. Their victory did little quell mounting anger with the government --- which was palpable in Istanbul and in Ankara where demonstrators set up barricades that police chose to ignore (Water cannon smashing through barrier and pushing person out of the way) to the outrage of activists. Turkish medics says that since the violent clashes started on Friday, over a thousand people have been injured with at least six losing eyes after being hit with tear gas canisters. Less

There were anti-government protests in Istanbul as well as in the capital, Ankara. Possibly fearing the two weeks of violent riots that rocked the Turkey in May, police turned to smoke grenades to try and disperse demonstrators. At one point, riot police charged into the crowd. Many here are angry about the recent killing of a Kurdish man by security forces in the southeastern part of the country. They say it's the just the latest example of what they have described as "excessive use of force" under Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. Less

As U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns arrives in Egypt supporters of Egypt's ousted President Mohamed Mursi are still out on the streets demanding that he be reinstated as they call for mass demonstrations. Burns met with interim Egyptian president Adli Mansour where he is expected to stress the need to end the violence and move toward a democratically elected government. Mursi is being held at an undisclosed location. He has not been charged with a crime but investigations are underway. His supporters are angry. ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY Angry Christians demonstrated across Pakistan Monday in protest at Sunday's deadly church bombings which killed nearly 81 people. A pair of suicide bombers blew themselves up outside a 130-year-old Anglican church after Sunday mass, the deadliest attack in recent history on Christians in the predominantly Muslim country. The explosions struck the historic white-stone All Saints Church in the city of Peshawar, near the frontier tribal areas where Islamist militants have their strongholds, as hundreds of parishioners, many of them women and children, streamed out of the building. More than 100 people were wounded, authorities said. The protests, joined by Muslims, were held in towns and cities around Pakistan, including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar. Less
